Car Reviews Need More Arrest Warrants →
If someone handed me the keys to a 207 mph supercar, I know where I’d end up: jail.
As a former car reviewer, this is absolutely true.
If I were a fairy godmother, my gift to every child would be curiosity.

Using a value-added tax (VAT) for Deficit... →
From Abstract: This paper compares two options to increase revenues as part of a plan to help avert a fiscal crisis – adopting a new value added tax (VAT) and raising all individual income tax rates, including those applying to capital gains and dividends, by a constant percentage.
VAT is common in Europe (instead of sales tax), and like payroll tax, it is regressive (the lower and middle...

Do we want to take bets, who will pay then?
ABSTRACT: In a commentary for CNN Money, Rudolph Penner states that the failure of the super committee is the latest in a long list of failures to deal with our fiscal problems. The only good thing that happened in the negotiations was that the Republicans opened the door to tax increases a tiny crack. That provides a very slim hope for more productive...

Police versus Military
Do you know why the police force and the military are kept separate? It is a good reason. A valid reason. A reason so good, indeed, that the model is only violated by non-democratic dictatorships.
It seems to me, however, that in the U.S. the police force has forgotten why it is not the military. It is becoming militarized and we all are the enemies that need to be subdued, pacified, destroyed....
